The mine is located on the Pass Thurn federal road B 161, 10 km south of Kitzbühel. In Jochberg, mining was first mentioned historically in 1447. In 1830, 16 km of track and 2 km of shafts had already been built in multi-storey quarrying. In its heyday, 134 tons of copper ore were mined annually over a length of 30 km. 160 workers found work and bread here. Until 1874, the ore was also smelted in Jochberg. On July 31, 1926, the last shift was run in the “Kupferplatte” and operations were discontinued. In 1990, the “Copper Plate Show Mine” was built in the old Erbstollen tunnel, which can be entered by the mine train 500 m away. If required, (group) guided tours by the former operations manager.
